Here’s what to know about monkeypox in Illinois.

The Madison County Health Department is investigating two probable monkeypox cases, according to a news release sent Tuesday afternoon.
Both individuals are isolating at home and had limited contact with the public. The health department has notified any close contacts.
Both cases are linked to domestic travel, the statement read. No further information about the cases were released to protect patient confidentiality.
Last month, the World Health Organization declared monkeypox as a global health emergency. The virus, which can spread from skin-to-skin contact, can cause symptoms like exhaustion, fever, a rash and swollen lymph nodes. The Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting 701 probable and confirmed cases in the state as of Tuesday.
St. Clair County reported its first probable monkeypox case last month.
If you have symptoms of monkeypox or have been in close contact with someone who has monkeypox, the Madison County Health Department recommends contacting a healthcare provider. Testing and vaccination may be available to individuals who were exposed or are at high risk of exposure to the monkeypox virus.
