arcenciel in collaboration with the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès has been working on a year-long project called « Act for the preservation of Lebanese forests by engaging younger generations ».
The project’s aim is to improve the knowledge and practices used for forest conservation in order to contribute to preserving the biodiversity of the Lebanese forests.
It will be executed in 3 phases.
In the first phase, starting August 2016, 20 young people recruited by the Chouf natural reserve, from universities or other organizations and relevant programs, will be trained in forest conservation. The 15-day long training offered will comprise:
The second phase will see the foundation of a committee for forest conservation by the participants, upon completion of their training, in order to lead projects for forest conservation. The committee will develop partnerships with various reserves, parks, and forests throughout Lebanon, to form a network of young dedicated volunteers under the name of “Lebanese Conservation Volunteers” (LCV).
arcenciel will provide accommodation for the committee, that will benefit from its growing network and experience to expand and develop new projects.
Finally, in the last phase, 4 groups of 15 people each will carry out voluntary actions in the Chouf natural reserve and in Taanayel during a 5-day volunteer program. Their practical work will be supplemented by theory and learning to enable them to continue their voluntary work and transmit their expertise later on.
